How to Cultivate Saffron
This article focuses on the introduction of saffron cultivation methods, saffron planting methods, and related information about timing for green plants. Please refer to the detailed introduction below.
Saffron, also known as crocus sativus, is a famous Chinese medicinal herb, native to Greece and mainly distributed in the Middle East, Iran, and Southern Europe. There is a small distribution in Tibet, China. It belongs to the Iridaceae family, Crocus genus. Its main benefits include promoting blood circulation and removing blood stasis, and it can also treat women's amenorrhea, irregular menstruation, and depression. The main propagation methods of saffron are corm propagation and seed propagation, usually chosen in September-October for corm propagation. Let's introduce the specific methods.
1. Timing Selection
It is generally recommended to propagate saffron corms from late September to early October, as the climate is cooler at this time, which is suitable for saffron corm propagation and can improve its survival rate and germination rate.
2. Corm Preparation
Select round, appropriately sized, and smooth corms for propagation. If there are old skin or roots on the outside of the corms, they can be peeled and trimmed off. After selecting the corms, soak them in solutions like potassium permanganate for about 30 minutes to disinfect and sterilize. After soaking, place them in a cool, well-ventilated area to dry.
3. Potting Soil Selection
Choose a pot of the right size and fill it with loose, fertile soil that has good permeability and drainage. Place the soil in the sun to expose it for 1-2 days to kill potential pests and germs.
4. Planting Process
Plant the prepared corms in the prepared potting soil, with the tip of the corms facing up and buried 4-8 centimeters deep.
5. Post-Planting Care
First, place the newly planted pot in a cool, well-ventilated environment to allow it to adapt to the new environment and keep the soil moist. Once the plants have germinated, they can be maintained normally.
