How to propagate Campsis

Core introduction to the text: Learn about how to propagate Campsis and the timing and methods for planting green plants and flowers. Let's get to know more about it.

For propagating Campsis, the timing can be chosen in spring or autumn. In southern regions or using old branches as cuttings, propagation should be done in spring. In northern regions, propagation is done in autumn using new branches as cuttings, chosen in July to August. Select vigorous branches free of diseases and pests as cuttings, prepare a well-drained, loose, and breathable substrate. Before planting, apply rooting powder to the base of the cutting. After planting, place it in a slightly diffused light and well-ventilated area for care. It will root in about 30 days.

1. Propagation Timing

For propagating Campsis, the timing should be chosen based on the cuttings and the region. If using old branches as cuttings, it can be done around March. If using new branches, it can be done in July to August. In southern regions, it is more recommended to propagate in spring, while in northern regions, it is more recommended to propagate in autumn.

2. Cutting Selection

Both old and new branches of Campsis can be used as cuttings for propagation. Choosing vigorous branches free of diseases and pests as cuttings can improve the survival rate and promote rooting. After selecting the branches, cut them to 10 to 15 centimeters, leaving only 2 to 3 leaves at the top, and cut off the rest to reduce nutrient consumption.

3. Substrate Preparation

The substrate for propagation must have good drainage and be loose and breathable to benefit the survival and rooting of the cuttings. Poorly drained substrates can lead to the rotting of the new roots due to积水. For propagating Campsis, you can use vermiculite, river sand, perlite, or coconut bran as the substrate. Place it in the sun for 1 to 2 days before planting to disinfect and kill germs.

4. Planting Cuttings

Before planting, you can apply rooting powder to the base of the cutting to promote rooting. Insert the cutting into the substrate 1/3 of its length, press the surrounding substrate firmly, and water thoroughly to complete the planting.

5. Care and Management

After planting, place the cuttings in a slightly diffused light and well-ventilated area for care, controlling the temperature around 20°C. Water when the top of the substrate is slightly dry, stopping when water渗透ates from the bottom of the substrate. Keep the substrate moist, and it will root in about 30 days.

The above is a detailed introduction to how to propagate Campsis and the timing and methods for doing so. Have you understood it?
