How to grow hydroponic mint
A guide to help you understand how to grow hydroponic mint and the techniques for caring for mint in water culture, which will definitely be of help to you. Let's learn about it together!
Mint has a unique smell and a wide range of uses. If you want to grow it at home, in addition to the soil culture method, you can also try the hydroponic method. There are two methods for hydroponic mint propagation: stem cutting and leaf cutting. I will introduce them in detail below.
First, stem cutting method
1. Preparation of cuttings
This method has a high survival rate and can basically succeed. It is recommended to choose healthy stolons for stem cutting, cut them with scissors, and the cutting length is about 5-15CM, with 3-5 leaves at the top and the bottom cut diagonally.
2. Insertion into bottle
Find a narrow-necked glass bottle according to the length of the cuttings prepared. If the bottle mouth is too large, you can use the method of making foam holes for insertion to prevent the cuttings from falling over. Fill the bottle with 2/3 water and insert the cuttings into the bottle.
3. Maintenance
Maintain in a shady and well-ventilated place for about 3-5 days, and roots will grow. Generally, change the water every 3-5 days, or change it immediately when the culture water is turbid. It is normal for the leaves of the cuttings to wilt and fall off during the early stage of hydroponics. As long as you maintain it correctly, new buds will sprout after the cuttings take root.
Second, leaf cutting method
Mint has a strong reproductive ability, so leaf cutting can also be used as a propagation method. Select healthy leaves from the mother plant, cut them with the petiole, and insert the petiole part into the water. Roots will usually grow in 3-5 days.
