Method of Propagating Zizhu Mei through Water Culture
Do you know these? Let's take a look at the knowledge about the propagation method of Zizhu Mei through water culture and a brief introduction to the cultivation techniques of Zizhu Mei.
Native to the Mexico region of the United States, Zizhu Mei not only has beautiful flowers but also has high medicinal value, making it favored by many people and its cultivation area is expanding. Zizhu Mei prefers a warm and humid growing environment, is relatively shade-tolerant, has poor cold resistance, is afraid of direct sunlight, and the optimal growing temperature is between 20°C-30°C. The main method of propagation is cutting. Next, let's understand the propagation method of Zizhu Mei from the aspects of cutting time, branch processing, cutting process, and regular maintenance.
1. Cutting Time
Zizhu Mei can be propagated at any time of the year, but the best time for cutting is every autumn. The autumn temperature is suitable for the growth and development of Zizhu Mei after cutting, which can greatly improve the survival rate of Zizhu Mei.
2. Branch Processing
Select a healthy branch about 5-8 centimeters long on the mother plant, ensuring there are 3-4 nodes on the branch, cut the incision at a 45-degree angle to ensure the smoothness of the cut, then soak the branch in clean water for about 12 hours, apply antiseptic and anti-inflammatory drugs to the wound, place it in a well-ventilated and shaded area to dry, avoiding infection.
3. Cutting Process
Prepare soil with good breathability and drainage, insert the processed branch directly into the soil, without needing to insert it too deep, about 2-3 centimeters is sufficient. Then press the potting soil down with your hand and wrap the branch with plastic wrap to maintain moisture.
4. Planting and Maintenance
Water thoroughly after cutting, then place it in a shaded area for maintenance, control the amount of watering to keep the soil slightly moist; when fertilizing, follow the principle of applying thin fertilizers frequently, especially during the growth period of Zizhu Mei, where you can appropriately increase the amount of fertilizer. Once it adapts to the environment, you can proceed with normal maintenance. Generally, it will take about half a month to root and sprout.
