How to Plant Campsis

The editor introduces how to plant Campsis and the timing and methods of cutting propagation for green plants and flowers. Let's learn about it together below.

For cutting propagation of Campsis, the timing can be chosen in spring or autumn, with southern regions or old branches as cuttings for propagation, choosing spring; for northern regions, propagation is done in autumn, using new branches as cuttings, and the timing is from July to August. Select strong branches without diseases and pests as cuttings, prepare a well-drained and loose matrix, apply root promoting powder to the base of the cuttings before planting, and after planting, place them in a slightly diffused light and well-ventilated area for maintenance. They will root in about 30 days.

1. Cutting Time

For the cutting propagation of Campsis, the time should be selected based on the cuttings and the region. If old branches are used as cuttings, it can be done around March; if new branches are used, the timing is from July to August. In southern regions, it is recommended to propagate in spring, while in northern regions, it is recommended to propagate in autumn.

2. Cutting Selection

Both old and new branches of Campsis can be used as cuttings for propagation. Choosing strong branches without diseases and pests can improve the survival rate of cuttings and promote root growth. After selecting the branches for cuttings, cut 10 to 15 centimeters and retain only 2 to 3 top leaves, removing the rest to reduce nutrient consumption.

3. Matrix Preparation

The matrix for cutting propagation must have good drainage and be loose and breathable to benefit the survival and rooting of the cuttings. A matrix with poor drainage can easily cause the newly grown roots of the cuttings to rot due to waterlogging. For the propagation of Campsis, you can use vermiculite, river sand, perlite, or coconut bran as the matrix. Place it in the sun for 1 to 2 days before planting to disinfect and sterilize.

4. Cutting Planting

Before planting, you can apply root promoting powder to the base of the cuttings to promote rooting. Insert 1/3 of the cutting into the matrix, compact the surrounding matrix, and water thoroughly to complete the planting.

5. Maintenance Management

After planting, place the cuttings in a place with a little scattered light and good ventilation for maintenance, control the temperature at about 20℃, water when the surface of the matrix is slightly dry, and stop when the water渗透ates from the bottom of the matrix. Keep the matrix moist, and it will root in about 30 days.

The above sharing on how to plant Campsis and the specific introduction of the timing and methods of cutting propagation are hoped to bring some floral knowledge to green plant enthusiasts.
