How to cultivate the wax begonia properly

The editor will tell you how to cultivate wax begonias properly and share some knowledge about the planting methods and precautions for growing green plants and flowers. Next, the editor will introduce the following information.

Division planting: In February to March of spring, dig up the plant, separate and disinfect the rhizome, and then plant it.

Layering planting: In June to July, bend the outer branches of the plant into the soil, and they can be separated from the mother plant and planted after two months.

Cutting propagation: Cut strong branches in late autumn or early winter and store them for spring planting. You can also use one-year-old branches in spring, inserting them into the sand soil to half their length.

Precautions: Keep the soil clean and disinfect it before use.

I. Division Planting

The wax begonia can be planted by division, and the timing can be in February to March of spring. When dividing, carefully dig up the plant roots, separate the rhizome, and simply disinfect it before planting. The planting can be done with wet soil and dry planting, and after planting, the soil should be pressed down. It is necessary to water the plant thoroughly five days after planting.

II. Layering Planting

Layering planting can be done in June to July, selecting strong outer branches of the plant and bending them into the soil. The branches root easily, so there is no need for cutting. After about one month, they will root. Do not separate immediately after rooting, but continue to care for them for another month. After approximately two months, separate them from the mother plant, including the roots.

III. Cutting Propagation

Using branches for cutting propagation is usually done in late autumn or early winter, generally after the plant has shed its leaves. Cut the branches 5-10 cm from the ground, with each branch about 10-15 cm long, then bundle them into groups of 50 and store them in a sunny place in the north. The depth of the trench should be about 40 cm and the width about 50 cm. Place the branches vertically in the pit and cover them with 10-20 cm of wet sand, keeping them moist during storage. In the following spring, cutting will be easier to survive.

In March to April of spring, cut branches, choosing one-year-old strong branches that are free from pests and diseases, about 10-15 cm long. Prepare the sand soil for cutting and insert the branches into the matrix to half their length. If you are in the north, you can use plastic film to cover and insulate, and new roots will grow in about a month.

IV. Precautions

When planting, the soil used should be kept clean. If there are residual bacteria in the soil, it will affect the growth of the roots. Therefore, it is best to disinfect the soil before use. The soil can be disinfected by sunlight or with chemicals.
