How to Sow Cosmos
Today, the editor will introduce how to sow cosmos and share some small experiences in plant cultivation, including the planting methods and timing for cosmos. Here is a detailed introduction.
The scientific name of cosmos is "Cosmos bipinnatus," originally distributed in the Mexico region of the Americas. It is widely cultivated in Yunnan, Sichuan, and other areas in China. Cosmos generally grows on ridge fields or near streams, offering not only ornamental value but also medicinal properties for clearing heat and detoxifying. Let's delve into the planting methods of cosmos in terms of planting time, soil conditions, and plant maintenance.
1. Planting Time
If you want cosmos to bloom in summer, the planting time is usually from February to March every year during early spring when the temperature and sunlight are very suitable for cosmos growth. For outdoor planting, the planting time should be in April every year. If you need cosmos to bloom in autumn, the planting time is from July to August. The planting time for cosmos changes according to different needs.
2. Soil Conditions
Cosmos thrives in fertile, loose soil that contains organic matter. Before sowing, you can add some decomposed organic fertilizer to the soil to increase soil fertility and promote plant growth. Mix cosmos seeds with sandy soil, sprinkle them on the seedbed, and cover them with a thin layer of fine soil about 1 centimeter thick. Maintain the temperature at around 18°C and keep the soil slightly moist.
3. Plant Maintenance
About 20-30 days after sowing, cosmos will take root and germinate. When the seedlings have 4-5 true leaves, they can be transplanted into pots and pinched to promote flowering. Cosmos has large flowers, so multiple pinching is required during growth to promote branching and flowering, as well as to avoid stunted plant growth. During maintenance, ensure that the plants receive adequate sunlight and water, but be careful to control the amount of watering to avoid waterlogging and root rot. There is no need to fertilize during the growing period, as this can easily cause excessive growth of branches and leaves, affecting flowering.
The above is all about how to sow cosmos and the methods and timing for cosmos planting. Have green plant enthusiasts understood this information?
