Geraniums are a very popular family potted plant, especially when they bloom, their flowers look like dense little balls. Geraniums are随处可见 (everywhere) in the world, showing how much they are favored by people. So, when you buy a pot of geraniums, how do you care for them? As a beginner, you will definitely be eager to know. Let's talk about the cultivation methods of geraniums.
【Geranium cultivation methods】
<1. Soil>
Geraniums are not very demanding when it comes to soil and prefer sandy loam rich in humus. We can choose a mixture of four parts humus soil, three parts garden soil, two parts sandy loam, and one part organic fertilizer to create a cultivation soil. Alternatively, a mixture of fine sand, humus soil, perlite, and organic fertilizer can also be used.
<2. Temperature>
Geraniums are sensitive to cold and prefer a warm environment. In the summer, prevent exposure to direct sunlight and place them in a well-ventilated area with scattered light, maintaining a temperature of around 15-25 degrees. In winter, keep them indoors at 10-15℃, with a night temperature of above 8℃.
<3. Light>
Geraniums are not afraid of strong light, so they only need to be shaded during the midday sun in the summer. In autumn, winter, and spring, you can place geraniums directly in the sunlight. If there is insufficient light, it will seriously affect their blooming, so avoid exposure to strong light.
<4. Watering>
When watering geraniums, follow the principle of keeping them on the drier side. In winter, when the temperature is low, water once a week, preferably at noon. In spring and autumn, keep the soil moist but avoid积水. During the rainy season, do not water and take drainage measures.
<5. Fertilizing>
During the growing season of geraniums, fertilize once every half month. In spring and autumn, fertilize once a week. Before budding, use nitrogen fertilizer, and after budding, use phosphorus and potassium fertilizers. When summer comes, as they are in a dormant period, fertilizing is not necessary. In spring, summer, and autumn, apply a top dressing, using fertilizers like manure or cake fertilizer water.
<6. Pruning>
When the plant grows lush, pruning is necessary. Trim the parts with many branches, remove the remnants of flowers that have already fallen, and prune the weak and dense branches that cannot grow normally. For geraniums that have been growing for more than three years and you want to cultivate a tall plant, prune the top of the branches.
<7. Repotting>
