What to Do About Grape Flower and Fruit Drop

Today, we are introducing how to deal with grape flower and fruit drop and the guidelines for using pesticides for green plant maintenance. These are great tips worth collecting!

During the growth of grapes, one of the most troublesome issues for farmers might be the flower and fruit drop. Actually, a moderate amount of flower and fruit drop is a normal phenomenon, but if it is severe, it needs attention as it may affect the yield of grapes and cause economic losses for farmers. Below, we introduce three types of remedies for grape flower and fruit drop: Yu Hua Ling, Naaic Acid, and B9 or PBO solution.

1. Yu Hua Ling

Yu Hua Ling No. 2 can be sprayed 1-4 times after the grapes have set fruit, with the concentration gradually increasing from 300 times to 400 times. Each time, it is also necessary to add 500 times the solution of Yu Hua Ling No. 1, which can inhibit the growth of new shoots. Moreover, about 10-15 days before harvesting the fruit, it is necessary to strictly control the water supply and spray 150-250 kilograms of water mixed with one bottle of Yu Hua Ling No. 1. Generally, it is necessary to spray every 7-14 days, and continuous spraying for 3-5 times can significantly improve the flower and fruit drop of grapes.

2. Naaic Acid

A mixture of Naaic Acid at a ratio of 50 mg to 1000 ml of water can be sprayed on grapevines. As a common plant growth regulator, Naaic Acid can promote cell division and expansion, increasing the fruit-setting rate of grapes and preventing flower and fruit drop. Naaic Acid can be absorbed through the leaves and branches' epidermis and transported throughout the grapevine with the nutrient solution.

3. B9 or PBO Solution

For varieties like the Kyoho grapes, which are tetraploid and prone to flower and fruit drop, a 300-fold solution of B9 or a 250-300-fold solution of PBO can be sprayed on the leaves of the grapevines ten days before flowering. This can improve the fruit-setting rate and effectively reduce the flower and fruit drop of grapes. However, these agents are not effective on diploid plant varieties.
