In the flower market, lavender is a particularly popular variety. Lavender plants are graceful and elegant in shape, smell fragrant, and appear exceptionally fresh when cared for at home. Lavender prefers a humid and warm environment but should not be watered too much, as it is prone to root rot. The following introduces the process from three aspects: seed treatment, sowing method, and growth habits.
1. Seed Treatment
Place the prepared lavender seeds in the sun for an hour, then soak them in warm water for twenty-four hours. Next, prepare a small box and a paper towel. Put the seeds in the small box, wet the paper towel, and cover the seeds with it to promote germination.
2. Sowing Method
When the seeds start to show white, choose a pot of moderate size. It is recommended to use loose, breathable, and well-draining slightly acidic soil. It is best to use garden soil improved with grass ash, rice husk, and a little lime. Then plant the seeds in the soil. The seedlings will grow slowly at first but will grow faster later on.
3. Growth Habits
Lavender has a strong adaptability, so maintaining a temperature of around twenty degrees is sufficient. It prefers dry conditions and does not require too much watering. Watering should be done when the soil is dry and slightly moist, as excessive watering can easily cause root rot. Also, be careful not to water directly on the leaves and flowers, as it can easily cause pests. It enjoys plenty of sunlight but should not be placed in direct sunlight and should be exposed to diffused light.
Generally, bone meal can be placed in the pot as a base fertilizer, used once every three months. When the lavender is mature, phosphorus fertilizer can be used for light fertilization. However, do not apply too much fertilizer, or the fragrance will become faint.
