Monkey Wood is a shrub, up to 7 meters tall; young branches have soft hair, and the epidermis of old branches often peels off in flakes. The leaves are thin and leathery, elliptical in shape, with visible netted veins on both sides, obtuse and short pointed, base wide cuneate to round, the midrib is often reddish on the underside of the leaf; the flowers are white, solitary at the top of the branch; the involucre is persistent, the corolla varies in size; the capsule is nearly spherical to oblate, the seeds have a high oil content, used for making soap, lubricating oil, etc.
