Camellia oleifera is an evergreen small tree, reaching 4-6 meters in height, usually 2-3 meters. The bark is light brown and smooth. The leaves are alternate, leathery, elliptical or ovate-elliptical; the flowers are terminal or axillary, bisexual, white; the seeds are brown or black, triangular, and glossy. The flowering period is between winter and spring. It is named as such because its seeds can be pressed for oil (tea oil) for consumption. Tea oil is clear, fragrant, nutritious, and has a long shelf life, making it a high-quality edible oil; it can also be used as a lubricant and anti-rust oil in industry. Tea cakes are both pesticides and fertilizers, which can improve the water storage capacity of farmland and control rice field pests. The fruit skin is a raw material for the extraction of tannin.
