Chrysanthemum Cultivation Methods and Management

The editor will tell you about the green plant and flower introduction of chrysanthemum cultivation methods and management. Next, the site editor will introduce to netizens.

Recently, many flower enthusiasts are confused about how to grow chrysanthemums? Spring is here, and many new branches have emerged from the pot soil, green and oily. So, how should we care for chrysanthemums in early spring?

Chrysanthemum Maintenance Tips in Early Spring

Chrysanthemums can be roughly divided into single-stem chrysanthemums, thousand-head chrysanthemums, and summer-blooming chrysanthemums. Different types of chrysanthemums have certain differences in management, but the management in early spring is roughly the same. We mainly focus on the following four points.

1. Timely Pruning of Old Branches

No matter what type of chrysanthemum, the above-ground part will wither during the winter, relying on the basal buds in the soil to survive. When the temperature rises in spring, the basal buds start to grow rapidly. At this time, we should first cut off the old branches left from the previous year to make more space for the basal buds to grow.

Most of these old branches are withered branches, and a small part of the old branches may also have new branches. At this point, depending on the number of basal buds, we can retain the strong new branches on the old branches. If there are many basal buds, cut off all the old branches, as the basal buds are the strongest new chrysanthemum seedlings.

2. Prevent Aphids

Chrysanthemums are very prone to aphids. After the new buds grow, you should pay attention to check them frequently and deal with them in a timely manner. A few aphids can be manually removed, but if there are many aphids, you need to use pesticides to spray. You can use dinotefuran or acetamiprid to spray. indoors, dilute eucalyptus oil 200 times to spray, which is also effective against aphids.

3. Timely Repotting

If it is a single-stem chrysanthemum or autumn chrysanthemum, the period of vegetative growth is relatively long. If there are many basal buds in early spring, they should be repotted in a timely manner to ensure enough growth space for the basal buds.

If many basal buds are crowded together, the new buds tend to compete with each other for nutrients, sunlight, and space, resulting in weak growth, insufficiently strong branches, and lower yield of flowering varieties.

If it is a thousand-head chrysanthemum or summer chrysanthemum, you don't need to repot, but you should change to a larger pot, replace the soil with a base fertilizer, and maintain sufficient fertilization and growth space.

4. Timely Pinching

Thousand-head chrysanthemums and summer chrysanthemums need to be pinched continuously during the spring growing season. Pinching can promote branching of the chrysanthemum. Generally, pinching can be done when the new branches grow to 6-8 leaves. When pinching, keep 4 leaves, and after pinching, 4 branches will appear.
