silver peony Pelecyphora strobiliformis - Cactaceae Turbinicarpus, native to Mexico above 1800 meters, commonly known as "pine cone cactus" because its shape resembles a pine cone. There are only 2 species in this genus, which cannot be exposed to direct sunlight, and the potting soil needs to be kept dry in winter. It is an endangered species. Gardeners often like to graft it because of its slow growth and difficulty in rooting. (The original species: Exquisite Palace Pelecyphora pseudopectinata has been moved to the genus Turbinicarpus and is now called Turbinicarpus pseudopectinatus).
