1. Grafting Propagation
(1) Grafting propagation is often used to expand the seed source and propagate slow-growing varieties, with the characteristics of low cost and fast speed. Grafting is carried out around the beginning and end of autumn. The rootstocks for grafting can be peony roots, peony seedlings, or peony roots, with a diameter of 2-3 centimeters and a length of 15-20 centimeters, and fibrous roots. Two days before grafting, slightly dry the roots in the sun to soften them before grafting. The scion should be selected from healthy, disease-free one-year-old thick branches, 8-10 centimeters long, with strong terminal and lateral buds. The scion should be cut and grafted immediately and should not be stored for too long.
(2) The common grafting method is the split grafting method. The lower end of the scion is cut into two equal-length cuts of 2-3 centimeters, then the top of the rootstock is cut flat, and the middle is split with a grafting knife to a depth of 2-3 centimeters. The cut scion is inserted from top to bottom into the split of the rootstock so that the cambium layers align, then tied with hemp skin. After grafting, insert it into the soil 6-10 centimeters deep, with the top covered with soil 10 centimeters higher than the scion to prevent cold and overwintering.

2. Division Propagation
(1) Peony division usually occurs from late September to early October, during which the soil temperature is very suitable for the formation of new peony roots. Select 3-5-year-old mother plants, dig them out of the ground, and dry them in the sun for 1-2 days, then split them at the easy-to-separate parts, leaving 3-5 buds per plant. After division, pot the plants, and they can be divided again after 5-6 years.
(2) The upper old branches of the divided plants should be cut off 3-5 centimeters above the root neck before planting. If the divided plants do not have sprouts or have too few weak sprouts, 2-3 dormant buds should be left below the cutting area. The purpose of cutting the old branches is mainly to avoid the consumption of nutrients in the roots by the leaves and flowers of the old branches, to promote tillering, and to enhance the growth potential of the divided plants.

3. Seed Propagation
(1) Seed propagation is suitable for single or semi-double varieties and is mainly used for breeding new excellent varieties and cultivating rootstocks, but it takes 5-7 years to bloom.
(2) Seeds mature in early September. After harvesting, they should be sown immediately. Before sowing, soak the seeds in concentrated sulfuric acid for 2-3 minutes, or in 95% alcohol for 30 minutes, or in 50°C warm water for 24 hours to soften the seed coat and promote germination. By winter, the radicles can germinate and grow, and they can be transplanted in the following autumn.
