Top 5 Taboos for Peony Flower Cultivation
Comprehensively analyzing the top 5 taboos for cultivating peony flowers, let's take a look together.
Peony flowers have always been considered a luxurious type of flower, so many friends want to grow them, but are intimidated by the reputation of their expensive fame and dare not try. Just these past few days, I received many messages from friends asking: Can peonies be planted now? Is it difficult to grow them?
In fact, peony flowers are not as difficult to cultivate as we imagine; they are actually one of the easier flowering plant varieties. You just need to pay attention to the following five points.
1. Planting Time
Many friends buy flower seedlings throughout the year, which is fine for other flowers, but not for peonies.
If you buy peony seedlings in spring or summer and they can be shipped to you immediately, they are likely white-flowered essential oil peonies!
For true ornamental peonies, due to their higher cultivation costs, sellers do not ship seedlings throughout the year. There is a saying about peonies and peony flowers: "Plant peonies at the spring equinox, and they won't bloom until old age!" This means that both peonies and peony flowers need to be planted early, specifically in the autumn.
Since the growth characteristic of peony flowers is that they develop new roots in the fall, planting peonies in the autumn allows the new roots to grow rapidly, ensuring they are strong and bloom the following year. If planted too late or in the spring, the roots do not grow, but the peonies will still sprout and consume nutrients, which can easily lead to poor growth or even complete withering of the peonies.

In the northern regions, autumn arrives earlier, and planting can begin as early as the beginning of September, while in the Jiangsu and Zhejiang areas, it is more suitable to plant from the end of September to early October. Therefore, true ornamental peonies are usually sold on a pre-sale basis, with orders taken first and then shipped when it's time to plant.
2. Avoid Waterlogging
Peonies should be planted on higher ground because they have fleshy roots and are afraid of积水. When planting in the ground, you should first ridge the soil to avoid waterlogging in the peony planting area.
If growing in a pot, a larger pot should be chosen, and a drainage layer should be made at the bottom of the pot when planting to ensure that excess water can be drained out and does not cause waterlogging.
3. Avoid Direct Sunlight
After peonies bloom, they should be shaded appropriately to extend their blooming period. In the summer, attention should be paid to shading to avoid strong sunlight, which can easily cause leaf scorching, early leaf dropping, and weaken growth.
4. Avoid Cold in Spring
