The cultivation method of dahlias
Today, I will introduce the content about the dahlia plant, which is a member of the asteraceae family. The cultivation method of dahlias is as follows:
Dahlias are also known as dahlia flowers, Dali flowers, peonies of India, and oriental chrysanthemums. Dahlias come in a variety of vibrant colors such as red, yellow, orange, purple, and white, which are very attractive. Double-petal dahlias have white petals with red stripes, like red agates embedded in white jade, enchanting and extraordinary.
The stems of dahlias are brittle and tender, unable to withstand strong winds and prone to waterlogging. When planting in the ground, choose a high and dry location with good drainage, ample sunlight, and a sheltered area from the wind, and make raised beds.
The spacing between plants is usually about 1 meter for most varieties and 40 to 50 centimeters for dwarf varieties. The stems of dahlias are tall, juicy, and tender, requiring stakes to prevent wind damage. Watering should follow the principle of watering thoroughly after drying. After consecutive cloudy days in summer followed by sudden sunny weather, promptly spray water on the ground and leaves to cool down, otherwise the leaves will develop burnt edges and turn yellow. During the dog days without rain, in addition to daily watering, it is also necessary to spray water to cool down.
Apply liquid fertilizer every 10 days after dahlias show buds until the buds turn color. Before frost, leave a root neck of 10 to 15 centimeters, cut off the branches and leaves, dig up the tubers, let them air-dry for 1 to 2 days, and then store them indoors with dry sand. The storage room temperature should be around 5°C.
For potted dahlias, it is better to use multiple pot changes. Use shallow pots with a large opening and make the drainage holes at the bottom as large as possible, with a layer of broken tiles as a drainage layer. The growing soil must contain half sand. The last pot change should be fertilized with enough base fertilizer to provide sufficient nutrition, and other management is the same as ground planting.
For dahlias used as cut flowers, the cultivation essentials are the same as ground planting, with a spacing of 50 to 100 centimeters. During the peak growing season, fertilize with liquid fertilizer once every two weeks, appropriately pinch the tips, and retain more lateral branches.
The above is an introduction to the cultivation method of dahlias, which can be used as a reference suggestion.
