Common Diseases and Control of Jasmine

This article brings you knowledge about Jasmine from the perspective of a floral clinic, including the common diseases of Jasmine and their prevention and treatment, which will surely help you. Let's learn about it together!

White绢 Disease

Symptoms

Often occurs at the base of the stem. Infected plants turn brown and rot, the diseased part's epidermis is easily peeled off, and white silky mycelium appears on the surface. In the later stage, rapeseed-like sclerotia are produced on the diseased part. The pathogen overwinters in the soil or on diseased residues in the form of sclerotia or mycelium. It is prone to repeated infections during the rainy seasons from May to June and August to September each year.

Control Methods

(1) Timely remove and destroy the diseased plant residues.

(2) Strengthen management, strictly inspect, and prevent the source of the disease.

(3) Initially, disinfect the surrounding soil with 70% pentachloronitrobenzene soil, or spray 1% Bordeaux mixture or 0.3 Baume lime sulfur solution, or 50% wettable fenbendazole soil. When the disease is more severe, spray 75% wettable benzene sulfate 800 to 1000 times liquid, or 65% wettable zinc sulfate 800 times liquid.

(4) Use 82 Trichoderma wheat bran biological preparation, mix with fine soil, and blend into the potting soil.

(T-J) Disease

Symptoms

Primarily affects the leaves, sometimes also the young shoots. Initially, small light green to yellow spots appear on the leaf surface, gradually expanding into gray-brown or off-white round or near-round spots. Black dots are scattered on the later stage lesions. The pathogen overwinters on the affected leaves in the form of conidiomata and mycelium.

Generally, the disease is more severe in summer and autumn.

Control Methods

(1) Strengthen cultivation management, timely remove and destroy diseased leaves.

(2) Initially spray 2 to 3 times with 70% Leke 600 to 800 times, once every 7 to 10 days. At home, 0.1% mercuric water or gentian violet solution can be used to apply.

(3) When the disease is more severe, spray 50% thiophanate-methyl or 75% wettable benzene sulfate 800 to 1000 times liquid, or 50% carbendazim 1000 times liquid, 65% wettable zinc sulfate 500 times liquid.

Leaf Spot Disease

Symptoms

Often occurs on the leaves. Initially, brown spots appear on the leaves, gradually expanding into round or irregular shapes, the diseased part becomes thin and translucent, and black granular matter grows on the spot. The pathogen overwinters on the diseased leaves in the form of mycelium or conidial bodies. It usually occurs from May to June and peaks from July to August.

Control Methods

(1) Timely cut and destroy the diseased leaves.

(2) Reduce nitrogen fertilizer and increase phosphorus and potassium fertilizers.

(3) Initially spray 70% Leke 600 to 800 times liquid, once every 7-10 days, or 65% wettable zinc sulfate 600 to 800 times, or 1:1:100 1% equal Bordeaux mixture.

Sooty Mold Disease

Symptoms

Initially, dark brown mold spots appear on the leaves, gradually expanding to form a black sooty mold layer. This disease is caused by bacterial multiplication due to the excrement of aphids and scale insects.

Control Methods

(1) Strengthen management and improve ventilation conditions.

(2) Timely eliminate aphids and scale insects.

(3) Before the disease occurs, spray 160 times the equal Bordeaux mixture; initially, spray 50% wettable carbendazim 800 to 1000 times liquid.
