Alocasia is an erect herbaceous plant with broad leaves. The aboveground stem can sometimes reach 2—3 meters in height, and the entire plant can reach up to 5 meters. As an ornamental plant, it is called Dripping Guanyin. In northern China, it needs to be overwintered indoors, while in southern China, it can grow outdoors. The corm and leaves can be used as medicine but are toxic. The leaf juice can cause poisoning if ingested. (T-W) refers to the Alocasia as Calla lily.
