【Ⅰ. How to cultivate Michelia alba】
Michelia alba is a tropical plant, usually planted outdoors. It is rarely kept indoors because its branches are tall and large, which may not look good in a house. However, it can be grown on a balcony, and Michelia alba is only suitable for growing in sunny places. A dark and humid environment can cause Michelia alba to wither. You can refer to the following cultivation methods and precautions for Michelia alba.
【Ⅱ. Cultivation methods and precautions for Michelia alba】
<1. Growing environment>
Michelia alba prefers a sunny and humid environment. Although it requires plenty of sunlight, it is best to place it under a shaded flower棚 in summer. When the light is suitable, remove the shading, and replace it during the midday strong sunlight. Therefore, Michelia alba is quite picky about its growing environment, and it can only grow robustly in a sunny location.
Precautions: Insufficient light, long-term shading, or exposure to strong sunlight can cause Michelia alba to grow poorly, resulting in fewer flowers, faint fragrance, and curled or yellowed leaves. To care for Michelia alba well, it can only be placed in a sunny area.
<2. Watering>
Watering is the key to how to cultivate Michelia alba. Moisten the soil in the pot thoroughly at once. There is no need to water when the soil in the pot is slightly dry, as the roots are fleshy and fear waterlogging but also do not tolerate dryness. In spring, water thoroughly once after moving out of the room, then water every other day; in summer, water twice a day, morning and evening, to prevent smoke pollution and keep the leaves clean. If necessary, spray the leaves to promote normal growth and development of the plant.
Precautions: Remember not to water every day, but you can often spray water on the leaves with a small spray bottle. In summer, it is necessary to water thoroughly at least three to four times a month, and be careful not to overwater, as this can淹死 the Michelia alba directly.
<3. Temperature>
Winter cultivation of Michelia alba requires good anti-freezing and warming measures, as Michelia alba is not cold-tolerant. In regions other than South China, it should be kept indoors during the winter. Maintain a daytime indoor temperature of 12 degrees Celsius or higher and a nighttime temperature not lower than 6 degrees Celsius, otherwise, it may suffer from low-temperature damage. Ensure good air circulation and keep the potting soil moist to safely overwinter.
Precautions: Michelia alba is not suitable for survival in cold environments, so temperature is crucial for Michelia alba to safely overwinter. If the temperature of the cultivation environment is too low, it will directly lead to the death of Michelia alba.
<4. Fertilizing>
Michelia alba requires a lot of fertilizer during its growth. When it is growing vigorously, it should be fertilized every half month or apply 2-6 grams of compound fertilizer. Apply thin fertilizers (such as cake fertilizer) frequently, but no fertilization is needed in winter. From sprouting new buds to June of the following year, water and fertilizer should be applied every 3-4 days, and from July to September, every 5-6 days, depending on the actual situation.
Precautions: Fertilizer should not come into direct contact with the roots. It should be gradually absorbed into the soil through watering to prevent "root burning."
<5. Potting>
The size of the pot needs to be chosen based on the size of the Michelia alba canopy and its age to make the growing environment more suitable. If a new pot is used, a small amount of loose soil and base fertilizer should be placed inside first, then watered thoroughly. After the plant is stable, you can change the pot when the soil is slightly dry. The method is to slowly tilt or turn the pot over.
Precautions: Potting should be based on the size of the Michelia alba canopy and the age of the plant to choose an appropriately sized pot or jar for vigorous growth. The new pot (jar) should be padded with a small amount of loose soil first, then watered thoroughly, and the plant can be moved to the new pot.
