How to Care for Aquatic Rose
Aquatic roses, known for their clean and elegant ornamental characteristics, have become a new trend in urban flower cultivation. Compared to traditional soil cultivation, aquatic rose care involves scientific control of water quality, lighting, and nutrition, allowing for continuous blooming throughout the year. This article will systematically analyze the key points of caring for aquatic roses, helping you create an exquisite floral scene on your windowsill.
Core Care System for Aquatic Roses
Control of Light Intensity and Duration
Roses require more than 4 hours of direct sunlight per day and are recommended to be placed on east or south-facing window sills. From 10:00 to 15:00 in summer, 30% shading is needed, and using a gauze with 70% light transmission can prevent leaf burn. In winter, they can be exposed to sunlight all day, and the effect is better with the addition of plant growth lights.
Accurate Temperature Gradient Control
Keep the temperature within the golden range of 18-25°C, with a day-night temperature difference of 5°C or less. In summer, use a water curtain cooling system to keep the water temperature below 28°C; in winter, use a constant temperature heating pad to prevent the water temperature from dropping below 12°C. Sudden temperature changes can cause bud drop, so special attention should be paid to the water temperature transition during water changing.
Water Quality Management System
Use purified water with a TDS value less than 50 and add 0.5ml of hydroponic nutrient solution per liter of water. Change the water every 15 days in spring and autumn, every 7 days in summer, and every 20 days in winter. When changing water, retain 1/3 of the original water to maintain bacterial balance, clean the inner walls of the container, trim the decayed roots, and then replant.
Comprehensive Pest and Disease Control
Enclosed environments are prone to aphids and red spiders. Spray the back of the leaves with garlic extract (1:50) weekly. Isolate any pest infestations immediately and kill them with a cotton swab dipped in 75% alcohol. Irradiate the water with a UV lamp for 30 minutes monthly to effectively prevent root rot.
Advanced Care Techniques
Regular pruning to maintain plant shape: retain 3-5 buds on the main branches and cut diagonally at 45° to increase water absorption area. Remove spent flowers promptly after blooming, cutting them back to the second compound leaf to promote the differentiation of new flower buds. Check the development of aerial roots during water changing, keeping the strong white new roots.
By precisely controlling the three key factors of light, temperature, and water, combined with scientific nutrition supply, an aquatic rose can bloom 5-8 times per year. It is recommended to establish a care log, recording the date of each water change, blooming cycle, and plant condition, to gradually master a personalized care plan.
