Kapok is a deciduous large tree that can grow up to 25 meters tall. It flowers from March to April, before the leaves grow, with a flowering period of about 15 days. Kapok is a special product of the south and is the city flower of Guangzhou, Kaohsiung, and Panzhihua. The kapok tree is quite unique; although it is full of red flowers, there are no green leaves to be found. It always sheds its leaves in winter and blooms in spring, with leaves growing after the flowers have fallen.
