Among the many varieties of succulents, Bingdeng Yulu stands out with its crystal-clear leaves and elegant posture. Let's talk about how to propagate Bingdeng Yulu through leaf insertion and decapitation, allowing this beautiful succulent plant to thrive in your home.
Getting to know Bingdeng Yulu:
Bingdeng Yulu (Sedum × 'Crystal Ball') is a hybrid succulent plant, native to South Africa. Its leaf flesh is transparent, like ice lanterns, shining with a charming luster in the sunlight. There are various ways to propagate Bingdeng Yulu, among which leaf insertion and decapitation is the most common and simplest method.
Methods of leaf insertion and decapitation:
1. Select healthy leaves.
Firstly, choose healthy leaves that are free from diseases and pests for leaf insertion and decapitation. Healthy leaves have a bright color and good growth.
2. Decapitation treatment.
Gently remove the selected leaves from the plant, and use a disinfected blade or scissors to trim the bottom of the leaves flat to increase the water absorption area. Be careful not to damage any other parts of the leaves.
3. Prepare the leaf insertion medium.
Choose a medium with good breathability and drainage, such as vermiculite, perlite, or coarse sand. Pour the medium into the flowerpot, compact it and spray water to moisten it.
4. Insert the leaves.
Place the processed leaves evenly on the surface of the medium, with the bottom of the leaves in contact with the medium. Gently press the leaves to ensure they are tightly in contact with the medium.
5. Keep the leaves moist and maintain the plant.
Place the flowerpot in a scattered light area, keep the leaves moist, and gradually increase the light intensity after the leaves have rooted at the bottom. When the new plant grows, it can be maintained normally.
Precautions:
1. When performing leaf insertion and decapitation, select healthy leaves and avoid using weak or diseased ones.
2. During decapitation treatment, be careful not to damage any other parts of the leaves to avoid affecting growth.
3. Keep the medium moist during the leaf insertion process, but avoid waterlogging to prevent leaf rot.
4. Adjust the light intensity according to the growth situation to promote healthy plant growth.
5. Regularly inspect the plant and promptly clean up weak and diseased branches and leaves to keep the growing environment clean.
Propagating Bingdeng Yulu through leaf insertion and decapitation not only increases the variety of succulent plants but also revitalizes your succulents. By mastering the correct propagation method, you will surely be able to successfully propagate the beautiful Bingdeng Yulu.
